Rochester Business Journal 25th Anniversary Edition

While I was employed at the Rochester Business Journal, we published a special edition to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the newspaper. The editor wanted something more open and clean than our newspaper layout. As lead designer on the project, I needed to find a balance between the pages that were photo-heavy and the ones that were text-heavy. After discussing these needs, I put together some options, utilizing a narrower two-column grid with an open outside column that could be used to extend photos or for quotes. This would give the layout a bit of air. Below are the cover—which I also designed—and a few inside spreads.

2012 Explore Greater Rochester

I was the senior designer on this annual project since its inception in 2003 until I left the company in 2017. It’s changed through the years but has always been a point of pride with me. The 2012 issue was my favorite. There were more opportunities for creative design than some other issues (due to content). Most recently, Explore Greater Rochester has been a joint publication between RBJ and Visit Rochester and stands as Visit Rochester’s official guide.
